Double Shot Shoots Double

7 Feb 2007
Los Angeles, CA - Double Shot films, LLC., a collaborative venture launched by the founders of FOE Entertainment has just completed principle photography on two feature films: "Cafe Coexistence" and "Duke's Cafe."

"It was a unique experience to see two films shot back to back, especially gratifying to see the growth and development of the actors given that they were double cast and the leads of one film were the supporting players in the other," said Randy Gifford, the director and writer of the films.

The project reunited Gifford with his good friend and creative partner Scott Bryner who has served as part creative consultant and part editor. It also saw Tim Mcgrath, a mere day player in the pair's first film, The Second Degree, take the lead role in "Cafe Coexistence." The films were shot on HD, entirely in one location over the course of 29 days and represent the first time a single cast has produced two feature films in less than a month. The films are in post production under the supervision of Dan Newman and will be screening in July.

Double-Shot Films Is Born

5 Dec 2006
Chatsworth, CA - The director of The Second Degree has a new undertaking: shooting two feature films on the same set using the same cast. Duke's Cafe, and Cafe Coexistence are scheduled for principal photography in the month of January. The cast and crew are posted at www.doubleshotfilms.com and include Foe Entertainment contributors including: Dan Newman, Scott Bryner, and Chris Watters. A brief description of the films follows:

Duke's Cafe

Paul, the owner of Duke’s Coffee shop is a bookworm, agoraphobe who starred in adult movies when he was in his teens. He is far too angry at himself to forgive anyone. He tells himself that he’s searching for something, but he’s really just waiting for something new to come to him. Enter Rene, a reality TV writer who specializes in scripting male tantrums.

Cafe Coexistence

Alan, an activist and proud malcontent opens a Native American themed coffee shop on tribal land thinking that he himself is a quarter Navajo. He plans on having mixed race children with his deeply spiritual life partner, Beam until she finds out what is actually in the mix. The question of who Alan really is gets answered by the worst person he's ever met.

THE SECOND DEGREE is Picked Up for Distribution with Limelight Films ... Again

29 Mar 2005
Hollywood, CA - During high-level meetings, the executives at FOE Entertainment met with the executives at Limelight Films at the Limelight offices on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, CA. At issue was the lapsed distribution contract for the FOE production, The Second Degree, Director Randall Gifford's freshman release.

"I was very glad when Bruno [president of Limelight Films] called. Bruno's French, you know. He's a great guy!" said Scott Bryner, Business Big Whig at FOE Entertainment. The meeting centered around Limelight's newly restructured marketing and distribution team and ended with The Boys From FOE deciding to renew their distribution agreement with Limelight once again.

Bryner remarked, "They've got their finger on the pulse of independent film, and we're definitely independent, so I guess that means they know out pulse. We're very pleased to be in bed with the people at Limelight."

Limelight Films is owned by the ADB Swiss Corporation and is headed by Kiera Chaplan, granddaughter of famed film pioneer Charlie Chaplan.

FOE SIGNS DISTRIBUTION for The Second Degree

9 Jan 2004
Hollywood, CA - FOE Entertainment announced today that their first feature-length indie film, "The Second Degree," has been picked up for distribution by Limelight Films, Inc.

"The Second Degree" is an independent comedy that covers the lives of several twenty-something deadbeats as they search to create meaning in their lives. Shot on Hi-Def with an extremely tight budget of only $17k, the film most recently won the Audience Award for "Best of the Fest" at the 2003 Breckenridge Festival of Film.

FOE Entertainment was founded in 2001 by partners Andrew Scott Bryner, who served as the film's producer, and Randall Clark Gifford who wrote and directed the film.

"Our whole focus in starting FOE was to tap into the huge pool of unrecognized talent in Hollywood to see, in coming together, if we could make an interesting film. It's the true indie spirit. And I think the fact that a $17,000 film has gotten distribution speaks volumes." remarked Bryner on the deal.

FOE'S Screenwriting Competition Heats Up

11 Feb 2002
Chatsworth, CA - Scripts are arriving in the hopes of being chosen as the winner of FOE's Screenwriting Competition. As we continue to take our first feature film through post-production, the company begins to turn its eyes to the next. What is unique and exciting about FOE is the way we open doors to new writers and filmmakers. There are too many contests out there that judge work based on mysterious criteria whereas FOE wants to find a project to produce and market. A screenplay is a collection of words until someone sets up a camera. FOE is eager to turn those words into action.

An Editor Is Chosen

1 Feb 2002
Sherman Oaks, CA - FOE Entertainment is proud to announce the selection of Ernesto "Ernie" Pena to the list of credits for "The Second Degree." Mr. Pena comes to us with much experience including a recent stint at The Walt Disney Company and has been attached to the project as Editor. When asked about his feelings toward the project Mr. Pena stated simply "I liked the project and the guys at FOE are great. If the direction holds up, I can make this movie rock!" FOE would again like to thank all who gave their time in consideration for the position.

Happy New Year!

With this competition, FOE Entertainment has joined the elite few companies that offer a first prize in a screenwriting competition that includes a production of a feature work. In addition, all submissions will be read by above-the-line members of FOE'S staff, including Directors, Producers, and Development Executives, and will not be simply "passed to an assistant" as in other competitions.

FOE Entertainment Announces Plans For A Screenwriting Competition

19 Nov 2001
Chatsworth, CA - Coming Mid-December, FOE Entertainment will be sponsoring a screenwriting competition to find the script that could become our next production. Having just completed principal photography on our break-through feature film, "The Second Degree," we need a script to feed to our production machine. This competition will give you the opportunity to have your script read by "above-the-line" members of our staff and could result in your script being chosen to be produced by FOE Entertainment!

Keep your eye on the submissions page of our web site.

"The Second Degree" Wraps Principal Photography

18 Nov 2001
Chatsworth, CA - On schedule, on budget and on time, The Second Degree cast and crew completed principal photography. "It was a remarkable effort." says Randall Gifford, the director. "We are more than pleased heading into the editing room. The production value was top notch for a low-budget film, the actors came through with smart, honest performances." He went on to say "This movie's gonna rock, if the editors don't screw it up."

Keep checking the production page for possible pick-up dates and news on the project as it unfolds. Trailers of the film will ready in late February or early March.

Thanks to Bexel's Tom Dickenson, and Panavision's Bob Harvey for their guidance and help. The HD High Definition format makes the visuals come alive. Director of Photography Adam "White Point" Sampson noted "High Def is like dating a really hot cheerleader, I don't know why, but it is." He didn't actually say that, but as he was the youngest of the crew, we at FOE consider it our duty to rib him with good-natured slander.

Production Begins On "The Second Degree"

3 Nov 2001
Chatsworth, CA - With production crew on hand, Randall Clark Gifford began work on his break-through film, "The Second Degree," a film about one man's spiritual quest in the crazy, mixed-up world of movies, connections, and women. With an award winning cast and crew, the schedule is set for FOE Entertainment to finish production after two full weeks of shooting.

"The Second Degree" is being shot on a Sony F900 HD (High Definition) Digital camera, just like the cameras being used by George Lucas in the filming of the next Star Wars feature.

Auditions Held for FOE Entertainment's Debut Production "The Second Degree"

3 Sep 2001
Sherman Oaks, CA - Auditions were held this weekend with a huge turnout. Thank you to all who came down and shared something special with us.

Sadly, we do not have enough parts for everyone. For those who do not make it into our current production, we are trying to come up with a way to show our appreciation for your efforts and enthusiasm. We're toying with the idea of offering web-space and email addresses to help "advertise" your talents to other prospective producers. Contact us and let us know what you think.

As I said, there was an amazing turnout of very talented people. We may be contacting some of you about future FOE projects.

The 2nd Degree Begins Development

2 Jan 2001

FOE is Born

1 Jan 2001
Las Vegas, NV - While driving back from Las Vegas after a splendid New Year's Eve with 500,000 of our closest friends, Scott pushed Randy into the idea of putting his MS in Directing to use in shooting one of his own screenplays instead of trying to sell them on the open market.
